In today's entertainment industry, older female fandom has become increasingly influential. In particular, middle-aged female fandom is notable for its growth in scale. There is a need to pay attention to middle-aged female fandom as a potential consumer class, prepare for their activities, and to stimulate active consumption. In the present study, we established an hypothesis that the fandom activity of middle-aged women affects their quality of life positively and that social support has a moderating effect in that relationship and tried to verify this hypothesis. A survey was conducted to verify this hypothesis. Questionnaires were collected through online fan communities and SNS. A total of 135 samples were collected, and 127 samples were used in the study, excluding 8 samples that did not meet the conditions. The results of the test on the effect of fandom activity on the quality of life through SPSS are summarized as follows. First, a cluster analysis was conducted to identify the differences between groups according to the level of fandom activity. Three clusters of high, intermediate, and low involvement were derived according to duration, frequency, strength, and commitment. Also, differences were identified in the perception of quality of life for each group classified by involvement. In the order of the high involvement group, the intermediate group, and the low involvement group, higher satisfaction with emotional and social life and the overall quality of life was observed. Second, it was confirmed whether social support had a moderating effect on the influence relationship between involvement of fandom activity and quality of life. Social support, family support, and friend support significantly affected quality of life but did not show a moderating effect on the relationship between involvement of fandom activity and quality of life. Third, multiple regression analysis was performed with the degree of fandom activity as an independent variable to analyze factors that have an actual effect on quality of life. As a result, the frequency of off-line activities was found to be influential on physical and economic quality of life and emotional and social quality of life. The strength of fandom activity was found to be negatively correlated with the physical and economic quality of life. In this study, implications were derived from the statistical analysis above, and it is shown that fandom activity can change the perception of middle-aged women and can serve as a positive leisure activity.
