The purpose of this study is to critically scrutinize how context is related to concrete aspects when modern novels are adapted into images in the adaptation activities of high school literary textbooks. To this end, we specified the contextual elements involved in the adaptation process and disclosed the relationship among them, arriving at the conclusion that learners are required to critically accommodate narrative in consideration of the relationship with context in adaptation activities. Chapter II looked into how context functions in narrative reading. By going over the direction of quest for genre knowledge, we found that context has the status as genre knowledge, and defined the function of context in the acceptance and production of literature by examining the concepts and sub-elements of the context of the 2007 revised Korean language curriculum through the 2015 revised Korean language curriculum. Since contexts have their own characteristics and have a great influence on interpretation and production of video narratives in each adaptation activity, learners should read critical narratives and stay creative based on them, taking into account the contexts acting on each text. Based on the above considerations, Chapter III analyzed the pattern of adaptation of the thirteen literary works within the 2011 authorized textbook “Literature I”, eleven literary works within the 2013 authorized textbook “Literature”, and ten literary works within the 2018 authorized textbook, “Literature” and discussed the meaning of the results of such interacting patterns. To begin with, the criteria for examining the aspects of adaptation activities are as follows. Firstly, is the context sufficient as a knowledge resource for adaptation activities?, secondly, does the learning activity fully reflect the context in the interpretation of the video narrative?, and thirdly, does the learning activity for active production reflect the context of the learner’s acceptance point? First, it was confirmed that the context of the genre involved in the adaptation process has been materialized. The 2011 authorized textbook “Literature I” covered knowledge of genre characteristics. The 2013 authorized textbook “Literature” provides not only information on the characteristics of the genre but also the attitudes of the producers of the genre. The 2018 authorized textbook, “Literature”, was able to find data on the relationships between contexts, but was insignificant. Next, it was confirmed that genre understanding activities were extended to interpretation of the author's context. In 2011, the authorized textbook “Literature I” was mostly understood by genre characteristics by comparing narrative methods, and the 2013 authorized textbook “Literature” went to an understanding activity that emphasized the aesthetics of genre characteristics in terms of acceptance. The 2018 authorized textbook “Literature” was designed to understand the characteristics of the genre through analogy with the production intention of the work. Finally, for production activities, the authorized textbook “Literature I” confirmed that there was an activity that simplified the process of being immersed as a producer. The 2013 authorized textbook “Literature” was confirmed to consist of activities to induce an active attitude by giving learners the role of producers. The 2018 authorized textbook “Literature” is organized systematically based on the directional aspects of the screenplay, but it has been confirmed that there is a limit to reflecting the context of the learner's acceptance point. Based on the transformation pattern of each textbook, the direction of improvement of adaptation activities in novel education was sought. First, it is to understand the knowledge of video language, which is essential for interpreting video narrative. Based on this, the original text and the video text can be divided into stories and discourse layers to find the points of modification, addition, and deletion compared with the original, and each group can explore the context of the production point of each text and interpret them in consideration of this. By interpreting the visual narrative by reflecting the differences in context acting on each narrative, production activities were carried out based on the understanding of the genre. Contexts from the point of acceptance in which each group encounters a work can be explored and the narrative can be reconstructed to reflect the differences from the original. This is linked to the expression in the video language, and can reflect the context acting on the producer's intention, which is classified into an aesthetic goal and a value goal, such as reconstructing a narrative. Afterwards, you can shoot and edit it yourself to complete the results, and check each other's meaning structure. The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship with the context in which the novel genre in Korean language education is engaged in negotiations with other media and cultural contents, and to deepen the understanding of various narratives. Through this, it will be possible to contribute to the realization of the purpose of education that develops narrative skills that go back and forth between learners' text and video narratives and draws interest in narrative culture.
