Electrical connector under fretting loading is subjected to cyclic mechanical and electrical loading, leading to wear and corrosion at the contact interface. During the fretting, the loss and regeneration of oxide layer can increase the change of electrical contact resistance and the instability of contact, which occurs a shortage of electrical circuit and a fire. The design of electrical connector under the cyclic loading has been investigated for a long time and researches has been performed to identify the effect of electrical and mechanical material, coating and lubrication of contact interface on electrical contact resistance. Moreover, it is reported that the contact stiffness is an important factor to determine the performance of electrical devices. However, there are few studies to investigate the effect of structural stiffness on electrical contact resistance. In this study, by using a trapezoidal thin beam structure, the effect of structural stiffness on electrical contact resistance under cyclic loading conditions are investigated. Specific frictional contact behaviors of the structure are numerically analyzed, and the variation of electrical contact resistance and the corresponding frictional contact behaviors are also experimentally investigated.
