In order to reduce infrared signature level, the infrared signature effects were investigated at various nozzle configurations of unmanned combat aerial vehicle. The circular nozzle of a virtual unmanned combat aerial vehicle was designed through a performance analysis. The shape of circular convergent nozzle was changed by selecting the reference aircraft. The CFD analysis which includes external flow field was conducted by using a density-based CFD code. The effects of nozzle shape modification on the flow and thermal fields near aircraft rear fuselage were analyzed. From the information of the nozzle and plume flowfields, plume IR signature was calculated through the narrow-band model. In the process, a system to combine information of the skin temperature distribution of the nozzle and after-body surface with an infrared prediction code RadThermIR is developed. Finally, qualitative information for the infrared signature reduction design was obtained through the analysis of the IR signature effects at various nozzle configurations.
