Most of the school education objectives are achieved in lessons, where the communication process between teachers and students is of huge importance. There is an even greater emphasis on the importance of a communication process in special lessons characterized by the different needs of individual students and abundant internal and external variables. Given the cognitive and linguistic characteristics of students, special teachers' questioning holds a huge portion in their lessons and becomes an important means of communication in them. There is a severe shortage of research on questioning by special teachers with no questioning analysis tools covering the characteristics of special lessons. This study thus set out to analyze questioning by special teachers in elementary school according to Blosser's questioning analysis criteria and also the criteria to facilitate utterance and examine their reflective thinking accordingly. For these purposes, the study focused on analyzing six special teachers in elementary school according to the types and characteristics of their questioning and examining their reflective thinking process on questioning with a structured interview with the participants. The investigator found primary criteria in Blosser's questioning analysis criteria much used in general education and special education. By analyzing questioning by special teachers in 13 special lessons, the investigator then classified their questions with major characteristics that would facilitate students' utterance into six types and proposed questioning to facilitate utterance to investigate the characteristics of questioning by special teachers in their lessons that could not be covered by Blosser's questioning analysis criteria used in general education. These two sets of questioning analysis criteria show that special teachers in elementary school used questioning to recall information, questioning for simple memories and observation, and cognitive and memory questioning that required repetition most. They also used mainly questioning for naming, repeating, and helping to facilitate their students' utterance. The study looked into the reflective thinking process of the participants and found that they did not make as much effort as the perceived importance of utterance. The results, however, implied that the process helped them figure out the strengths and weaknesses of their questioning and expand the understanding of questioning for its proper uses in lesson situations. Based on these findings, the study discussed a couple of implications to improve the quality of special lessons and enhance special teachers' questioning professionalism.
