Transparent conducting electrode, which has high transmittance in the visible light region and high electrical conductivity at the same time, is an essential component of many flexible optoelectronic devices including displays. The most commercialized transparent electrode ITO shows excellent electronic performance, but it has limitations as a next-generation flexible device due to the scarcity of indium and the brittle properties of the film. Therefore, there is a need for a transparent electrode to replace it.In this study, the principle and method of a flexible and invisible electrode fabricated using a sacrificial layer based on inkjet printing are presented. This metal grid electrode, composed of an aluminum thin film with an inverted hole array pattern by the lift-off process, was fabricated with a line width of 8 μm. Metal grid transparent electrodes was defined aluminum areal density to predict the electrical and optical properties of various arrays. It exhibited a high transmittance spectrum uniformly in a wide wavelength region from UV to IR region. The performance as a transparent electrode was confirmed by examining the figure-of-merit of metal grid electrode with various pattern arrays and drop distances. This process is simple, eco-friendly and cost-effective as it is made without a mask using inkjet printing. Furthermore, the resistance maintained unchanged over 7000 repeated bending cycles, verifying excellent conductor stability. Finally, the application of a high-performance transparent touch screen panel and a transparent heater using a metal grid electrode was demonstrated.
