Due to advancing information-conveying technology, all that transpire in the modern society is closely related to information. Especially, because of contemporaries’ high interest in daily living, research to create an environment, where information on daily living is collected, accumulated, conveyed and shared, is also on the rise. The purpose of this study is to select information on daily living among many kinds of information, find out cognitive patterns from the current researcher’s personal habits and visualize them. ‘Daily living’ means life being repeated in the reality we live out. The current researcher considered the meaning of daily living and explored what information on daily living means. Based on such concepts, the researcher collected and classified information on daily living, defining it as a spatial concept of ‘personal sphere’ and as a temporal concept of ‘repetition and perpetuality.’ Through this process, information on daily living changed into a form worthwhile to the researcher and could become a visual medium helping readers understand. Visualizing such information that was studied to reach these goals acted as a factor enabling the researcher to recognize certain behavioral patterns from her own daily routine in that the information collected from personal space using a computer can be expressed real time. This study looked into some visualizing cased regarding habits as information on daily living and explored how to visualize personal habits. Habits have a huge grip on our life but are hard to recognize. This study is not only a try to find the researcher’s own daily living patterns not recognized before through the visualization of her habits but also a process to prove that mere information gets to have special meaning depending upon how it’s processed. ‘Receipts Project’ that was planned to do this research visualized personal habits using receipts collected for 15 months. By looking into information easily overlooked in daily routine, the researcher explored her own habits and living style. Also, through various visualization methods, readers were led to study designing methods to convey information in a effective manner. Results of this project are shown below; First, ‘finger print project’ visualized the researcher’s time and money spent using the information of her receipts by comparing them to the form of finger print. Through this, the researcher’s habits by her preferred consumption time zone is presented to readers, who are then helped to indirectly recognize their(readers) own habits through the other(the researcher)’s habits. Second, ‘flow project’ that visualizes the money paid for presents the researcher’s spending habits directly using her receipts. Changes in brightness help readers easily realize similarity and difference in the information given. Third, ‘overlapping project,’ which uses patterns of receipts familiar to the general public, enables readers to effectively interpret what characterizes the researcher’s personal habits. Fourth, ‘triangle project’ converts information contained in receipts such as time, buys and so forth into geometric figures and forms the researcher’s daily routine patterns in info-graphics. Fifth, ‘change project’ depicts the researcher’s living trajectory and presents the flow of time and changes in her life by visualizing various kinds of information at the same time. This ‘receipts project’ also focused on reflecting upon the researcher’s own life while it found out what it means to visualize personal habits as information on daily living. Unlike the existing visualizations of information, information visualized in a creative and easy-to-understand manner is better accepted by readers because they are not professionals but the general public. Even in the designing process, communication between readers and information can be strengthened if conveying media are closely related to readers. Besides, this study is expected to help readers get more interested in the characteristics and order hidden in their life.
