Under the influence of national strategies such as "Made in China 2025", the digital transformation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises has entered a new stage of rapid development. Improving the digital maturity of enterprises to complete the digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises is very important for Chinese manufacturing enterprises. Taking listed equipment manufacturing enterprises in China as research samples, this study explores the influence of enterprise digital maturity on the performance of equipment manufacturing enterprises by studying the data of 827 Chinese equipment manufacturing enterprises in 2020. To better verify the impact of digital maturity on enterprise performance, this study selects ROE and operational efficiency as performance evaluation indicators, then controls enterprise age, enterprise size, and ownership nature in the empirical model. The study used statistical software STATa15 to conduct multiple regression analysis. Since there is no direct measurement method of digital maturity, this study uses the prior research method to build a digital keyword database and conducts text mining on the annual public reports of listed companies through R Studio3.0. The proportion of digital keywords in the total words of annual reports is counted as a proxy variable of the enterprise's digital maturity level. It is also one of the main innovations of this paper. The results show that digital maturity has a significant impact on enterprise ROE and operational efficiency, enterprise size significantly impacts operational efficiency, and enterprise age has a negative impact on ROE. Combined with existing research and analysis, it can be concluded that there is a positive correlation between digital maturity and corporate capital profitability, which also provides relevant suggestions for how to improve the digital maturity of Chinese manufacturing enterprises.
