This research aims to explore the tolerance level of the focal firm towards partner’s opportunism. Extant research in opportunism literature focused on the factors that motivate firms’ opportunism or repress such behavior. However, this research changes prevalent focus from opportunism-behaving firm to opportunism-encountering firm and examines the tolerant behavior. The study finds its underlying logics from network embeddedness perspective instead of economic logics that most opportunism research was based on. It explores how network embeddedness (i.e., structural embeddedness, relational embeddedness) can influence focal firm’s tolerance level towards opportunism. Although the main effect of opportunism to tolerance level was not found as expected, the results show the moderating effects of structural embeddedness, and partial moderating effect of relational embeddedness on the relationship between opportunism and tolerance.
