This research aims to identify the artistic and social value of Kim Dong-won, the first-generation performer and master of the intangible cultural heritage dance called Dongnae Hakchum in Busan Metropolitan City. The research methodology includes literature review, analysis of academic papers, pamphlets, newspapers, internet sources, as well as oral history research through interviews to employ humanistic approaches. Kim Dong-won was born in 1926 and was introduced to dance at a young age by his family, which greatly influenced his later development as a renowned dancer. After 1945, he began to earnestly practice Dongnae folk dances, and in 1965, he started participating in various dance activities, commencing with the National Folk Arts Festival. After being recognized as the bearer of Dongnae Hakchum in 1985, he dedicated himself to the artistic activities of the dance until his passing. Kim Dong-won participated in numerous performances, such as the National Folk Arts Festival, regular performances by the Busan Society for the Preservation of Folk Arts, national intangible cultural heritage presentations, overseas performances, and traditional dance festivals. Additionally, he played a significant role in passing down his knowledge and skills by mentoring and conducting workshops, fostering many successors. Kim Dong-won's artistic value can be observed in three aspects: firstly, in the imitation beauty displayed in Moireumsawi, secondly, in the divine beauty revealed in Baegimsawi and Jwaupulgisawi, and thirdly, in the natural beauty reached through improvisational dance. Furthermore, his dance effectively portrays the refined image of the Confucian scholar that Hakchum symbolizes. Beyond its artistic merits, Kim Dong-won's dance has great social significance as it preserves the authenticity of Dongnae Hakchum, based on the family lineage, safeguarding the traditional culture and laying a foundation for the continued enjoyment of Dongnae Hakchum. His efforts in transmitting the dance through educational activities have also contributed to its inheritance and development. The research on Kim Dong-won, who possesses historical significance for Busan's folk dance beyond the Dongnae region, holds significance as it not only documents his legacy but also sheds light on his achievements and paves the way for the continuation of his valuable contributions.
