In this article, I would like to focus on Japan in the 1960s, when of the former Japanese soldiers who had directly experienced World War II was happening. In the 1960s, “comfort women” appeared in the public media of film as private memories of soldiers who had experienced war. “Comfort women” were mentioned in private contexts such as various friendship groups that began to be organized immediately after Japan’s defeat, as well as in magazines that described sexual experiences on the battlefield. Such a mode of memory at the bottom of society emerged through the “war record” in the 1960s. Among them, the “comfort women” symbol in film was the expression of “comfort women”-related discourses in social culture and pop culture. By analyzing these discourses centered on the “war record” and comfort women’s representation inmovies, I expect to clarify the flow of memories and representations of these women that occurred in Japanese society in the 1960s and the mode of their division.
