Although the wire bonding technique using solder is indispensable to attach a conducting wire to a pin on a circuit board, trace elements in the solder can cause contact failure. We have studied the effect of the Br element as an impurity among the trace elements by synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SR-XRF) analysis. The SR-XRF analysis was performed at SPring-8 BL16XU (sunbeam). The minimum detection limit of Br was about 0.03 mass ppm using standard samples. The adsorbed Br increased with decreasing temperature when soldering from model sample analyses.
