In recent years, robot-assisted surgery has been applied to a wide variety of surgical methods. While laparoscopic nephroureterectomy (LNU) has been established as the standard minimally invasive procedure for pyelonephric ureteral cancer, robotic-assisted nephroureterectomy (RANU) was covered by insurance in Japan in April 2022. Compared to LNU, RANU is reported to have a shorter hospital stay, a lower complication rate, and no difference or superior perioperative outcome. RANU is expected to become one of the standard treatments in Japan in the future, and it is hoped that this safe and secure minimally invasive treatment will become more widespread.
