A new shape separator with flowing liquid film was developed and the performance of the separator was evaluated through the experiments with mixtures of spherical and irregularly shaped particles having diameters of about 150-420μm. As a result, this separator was capable of effectively separating particles according to the particle shape in liquid with a small inclination angle of the conical disk under the optimal operating conditions, such as rotational speed of the disk, liquid flow rate of flowing-film and particle feed position. The separation efficiency under various operating conditions was determined mostly by the frictional characteristics of irregularly shaped particles on the rotating conical disk.
