A multidisciplinary approach by healthcare professionals with a variety of specialties is necessary to provide high quality medical care for patients. It has been a long time since the importance of the interprofessioal education (IPE) in undergraduate medical education has been considered. A symposium on “Interprofessioal education from faculty to clinical practice and community—multidisciplinary team for patient-centered medical care” was held at the 5th annual meeting of the Japan Society for Pharmaceutical Education in September 2020. At the symposium, practice reports of the team approach in medical care in the cooperation with undergraduate, university faculties, professionals, and citizens in local communities were presented. Based on the basic knowledge and skill of each member organizing the team, it is important to participate in discussions, to assess the problem of patients and families from various viewpoints, and to share the information so that appropriate intervention and medical care can be provided. To establish an effective learning program for IPE, the coordinated curricula between the departments is required. The opportunity of continuing education and training programs for postgraduates and healthcare professionals in an on-site setting should also be implemented.
