A mixture of silane-modified epoxy resin and liquid polymer was cured with a novolak phenolic resin to lead to a novel ternary hybrid material of epoxy resin, silica and liquid polymer. According to viscoelasticity measurement vs temperature, hybrid composites display much smaller glass transition and lower modulus than the original epoxy resin, because of their specific structure with phase separation of epoxy-silica and liquid polymer.
