It is necessary to select a good character for succeeding an animation movie that requires a narrative containing typical characters with their vivid personalities. Thus, not only has it artistic value to show in public, it has also the commercial one. The infrastructure of this industry has been increased and reached recentley its maturity by rapid technological development and its content variations. The chinese animation showed greater improvement in its quantity and quality, however greater gap as ever in creative materials and means, quality, and marketing by comparison with rich countries like USA in animation industry. This study attempt to contribute to internalize the chinese animation by a comparative analyse of some personalities and designs of chinese and american animation characters, which have been major factors for an animation success. As results, the chinese animation characters must be simple and extravagant in their personalities and designs according to modern idea for attracting instinctively the public and reaching some degree of international one, not only for depending on chinese art tradition. Especially, beyond simplicity in personalities, main characters have to show their complex and various personalities which should conduct some vivid personal aura and active narrative in plot. This is the point that chinese characters must be improved.
