The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of public research institute researcher characteristics and cooperative environment on the success possibility of cooperation through interaction in industry-public research institutes (I-PRIs) cooperation. The factors that researcher characteristics and cooperative environment have on the success possibility of I-PRIs cooperation were explored through the existing literature review, and a conceptual research model was proposed focusing on these factors. In this study, social orientation, creative self-efficacy, and technology commercialization capability were used as the researcher characteristics factors, and cooperation system suitability was used as the cooperative environment factor. Data to analyze the combinatorial relationship between these factors affecting the success possibility of I-PRIs cooperation were collected through a survey conducted on researchers from public research institutes in Daedeok Innopolis. In the survey, 114 responses were collected that could be analyzed. A fuzzy set qualitative comparison analysis (fsQCA) method was used for data analysis. From the results of fsQCA, three solutions were derived that determine the success possibility of I-PRIs cooperation. The first solution showed a high possibility of success of I-PRIs cooperation when the social orientation of researchers was high and the cooperative system was suitable for cooperation. In the second solution, when researchers have high social orientation and creative self-efficacy, and high technology commercialization capability, the success possibility of I-PRIs cooperation is high. The third solution showed that the researcher's creative self-efficacy and technology commercialization capability were low, but the success possibility of I-PRIs cooperation was high when the social orientation was high.
