The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of group calligraphy therapy on the anxiety and depression of Chinese art college entrance examinees. Subjects of this study were 100 art college entrance examinees from 15 high schools in China's A, B, and C provinces, and 50 participants were randomly selected as the experimental group and 50 as the control group. The experimental group received a group art therapy program using calligraphy twice a week, 90 minutes each, for a total of 16 sessions, while the control group received no treatment. The data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 to test for differences in the demographic characteristics of the study participants, to test for normality, to conduct paired-sample t-test, independent sample t-test, and covariant analysis. The results of the analysis were as follows: first, the pre- and post-score of anxiety in the experimental group decreased significantly, and the decrease was statistically significant when compared to the control group; second, the pre- and post-test scores of depression in the experimental group decreased significantly, and the decrease was statistically significant when compared to the control group. This study demonstrated that group calligraphy therapy is effective in reducing anxiety and depression among Chinese art college entrance examination students. Therefore, this study is significant in that it provides a basis for further research on various emotional problems among Chinese art college entrance examination students.
