The emphasis of Pilates on dynamic balance ability makes it a good exercise program for significantly decreasing the risk of falling and increasing the quality of life for the elderly. Despite this logical connection, the benefits of Pilates in reducing falls in the elderly has not been demonstrated by way of careful scientific investigation. This study aimed to test the effect of Pilates on resilience and dynamic balance in the elderly(aged > 65). The study selected 20 elderly individuals(6 male, 14 female) using a convenience sampling method and examined the effects of a 12-week Pilates program which was specially designed to be safe and easy for the elderly. Resilience was analyzed using Korean Resilience Quotient-53(KRQ-53) and the change of dynamic balance was analyzed with TUG(Time Up and Go test) assessed both pre- and post-Pilates. Although there was no significance found in resilience(p= .066) and dynamic balance ability(p= .066) among elderly males, elderly females showed significant improvements in resilience(p= .003) and dynamic balance ability(p= .002) after Pilates. These result can suggest that Pilates can be an effective tool for fall prevention and suicide prevention for elderly women.
