The purpose of this study was to explore the mediated effects of performance failure appraisal in the relationship between a golfer's perception of success and sources of sport confidence. Participants surveyed 368 amateurs and professional golfers using perception of success, sources of sport confidence, and performance failure appraisal questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and Process Macro Model 4. The findings were as follows. First, the relationship between a golfer's perception of ego-success and sources of sport confidence has been shown to mediate performance failure appraisal. Second, it has been shown that the relationship between a golfer's perception of task-success and sources of sport confidence did not meditate on performance failure appraisal. Therefore, coaches and athletes should identify the types of success perception and set goals for improving confidence accordingly. And athletes with ego-success perception should formulate strategies to cope with fear of failure.
