This manuscript is focusing on Heidegger’s philosophy which shows that the return to “nothingness” or death defines existence methods of Dasein as the continuity which continues constantly, and is about to reveal through Heidegger that death and silence appeared in the poetical work of Kim Haeng Sook paradoxically defines life. Heidegger said that human beings who are different from animals are Dasein as Entia who can ask questions about the meaning of their existence. Human beings realize the limit of time or feel anxiety when they face death of themselves or others, however, not life but death is the starting point to find out their real selves and they can finally realize their values of life and the reason for their existence when they accept death without running away from it. He also, said that languages are ‘home of existence’ and we can not correctly understand existence without languages. However, paradoxically, silence is the fundamental language which lets us know the essence of existence and it makes the true speakingness possible. Heidegger said that we can experience new possibility when we become silent and focus on the voice of conscience. [Portrait of Echo] ,which is the fourth poetic work of poet Kim Haeng Sook, makes Echo ,who is a fairy who had to be silent until other people speak in a myth, as a poetic ego by bringing Echo as ‘an existence without an Ens’. Echo sings for silence and death but there is true desire of communication and love for life. At this point, we can find the contact point between Heidegger and Kim Haeng Sook. The reason of Heidegger and the poetic world of Kim Haeng Sook have the common denominator of the ‘paradox of silence and death’. They, one of whom was following philosophical reason and the other who was following poetic reason, agonized about the authenticity of human beings and the restoration of human beings’ essence. Furthermore Kim Haeng Sook told us that we should on look back our lives by focusing on our inner voices, not stop and keep going forward to ask questions by investigating dark realities and contradictions of the world. In this way, we can assume that silence, as explained by Kim Haeng Sook, took one more step forward by emphasizing social articulation and the conscience of artists from Heidegger’s reason, which was focused on introspection by listening to inner voices.
