The purpose of this study is to measure the management efficiency of research equipment industry in South Korea and to suggest policy implications for efficiency improvement. Previously, research on the research equipment industry was mainly conducted from a public perspective, but this study differs in that it improves efficiency from a company perspective. This study analyzed the management efficiency of 12 research equipment companies using the DEA-SBM model. As a result of the analysis, the average efficiency based on DEA(CRS) was 71.5%, and the average efficiency based on DEA(VRS) was 88.4%. the average efficiency based on DEA-SBM(CRS) was 54.3%, and the average efficiency based on DEA-SBM(VRS) was 74.3%. The factors with the most slacks are R&D expenses, sales, total assets and number of workers based on DEA-SBM(CRS). Based on DEA-SBM(VRS), it is in the order of sales, R&D expenses, total assets and number of workers. Therefore, in order to improve inefficiency, sales and R&D expenses should be considered first. The results of this study are expected to be useful information for improving the management efficiency of research equipment companies and establishing policies to foster the research equipment industry.
