Although Zhu Yuanzhang, Ming Taizu(the founder and first emperor of the Ming Dynasty) in Korea classical literature occasionally exposed his shortcomings as harshness, he was basically portrayed as an outstanding emperor as well as a modest and gentle monarch, so his image is significantly different from the image of tyrants in Chinese literature. This paper analyzed the image of Mingtaizu Zhu Yuanzhang in Korea classical literature of, and combining with the direct or indirect experiences, memories, thoughts, practical demands and other considerations of their writers and the groups that they belong to, the paper also discussed the formation of the image of Mingtaizu Zhu Yuanzhang, and analyzed the characteristics of the formation and evolution. The image of Zhu Yuanzhang originated from scholars who supported the Ming Dynasty during the periods of late Goryeo and the early Joseon Dynasty. In the 17th century during the alternation of Ming and Qing Dynasties, he was even highly praised as the most excellent emperor. After investigating the reasons, we found that the China centric view in Neo-Confucianism, the favorable impressions generated in personal experiences and sharing a bitter hatred of the enemy generated in the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 and the Manchu Invasion of Korea in 1627, 1636 played an important role. The image of benevolence, filial piety, modesty, and gentleness came from faithful scholars in the 16th century, aiming to set up an ideal monarch model and promote reform. Since the middle of the 17th century, the image became better, and it spread widely because of its accordance with the strong idea that the people at all levels in Joseon respected Ming and repelled Qing; while the aggressive imperial image was bound to the memories and embodiment of Korean scholars’ suffering from persecution by Zhu Yuanzhang’s policies. The image of power stem from the folk literature in the late Joseon Dynasty, and people recreated it on the basis of the existing positive image of Ming Taizu, and they expressed their dissatisfaction with Taejo of Joseon and Joseon Dynasty with the aid of the image of Zhu Yuanzhang. With respect to its formation and evolving mechanism, the behavior of speakers is a factor of shaping its own image--the peace policy in the Ming Dynasty didn’t leave a seriously negative memory on the Korean peninsula. The elite group who led the society had a very important function, and since then, the literati who mastered the speaking right beautified Ming Taizu, which played an important role in forming his positive image. In the final analysis, writers and the groups that they belong to and social demands generated a huge influence on shaping images of exotic characters. In the mid and later 17th century, the image of Ming Taizu was shaped into a perfect one, and it further spread in Korea. It was because the writers took the extreme beautification of Ming Taizu as an important means of expressing their gratitude, sympathy and memories to the Ming Dynasty and their hatred and contempt to the Qing Dynasty.
