The purpose of this study was to verify the validity of a scale to measure the psychological strength of swimmers. A total of 393 copies of data were collected from swimmers residing in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Suwon, Gwacheon, Daejeon, Daegu, and Gwangju using a convenient sampling method after setting swimmers nationwide as the population. . The scale used in the study was the psychological tenacity scale, which was developed by Bartone, Ursano, Wright, and Ingraham (1989), consisting of 45 items with three factors and a five-point Likert scale. As a result of examining the articulation of the response categories of the scale, the 4-point Likert scale was found to be suitable. As a result of examining the fit of the items, 32 items were found to be suitable as constituent items of the psychological toughness scale of swimmers. As a result of examining the discriminatory item function to verify the discriminatory power and verification power of the scale, 10 items showed differences according to gender, and were excluded from the constituent items of the scale. According to this procedure, the final 3-factor, 22-item, 4-point Likert scale was reconstructed as the psychological strength scale of swimmers.
