Power electronic transformer (PET) will plays a key role in the development of smart grids in the future for its flexible control and operation modes. Based on PET topology and control strategy, this paper analyzes the interaction characteristics between the PET ports and discusses the stability of a typical AC/DC hybrid system with the PET in the case of short-circuit faults at different ports. The simulation results show that the short-circuit fault of 750V DC port has the greatest impact on the stability of the system. Based on the result, the solution to install the fault current limiter (FCL) on the 750V port of PET is presented. The simulation results show that the installation of the fault current limiter can effectively improve the stability of the system.
