This manuscript presents a millimeter-wave compact metasurface-based antenna element and its application in a wide-angle scanning phased array. Benefit from the compact wideband antenna element and novel simple decoupling structures, the proposed phased array using the LTCC multi-layer integration technology can realize good performance including wideband impedance-matching, wide beam scanning range and relatively high isolation between sub-arrays. It is indicated in the simulation results that the proposed array can cover the operation band of 66–76 GHz with the isolation of more than 19 dB. Meanwhile, it can achieve a large scanning range from -55° to +55°, and ensure the gain attenuation being less than 3dB, which would be potentially applied in millimeter wave wireless communication field.
