In this paper, a double current excitation control method (DEC) is proposed to suppress the torque ripple of the novel SRM. The trough value of torque is increased by the overlapped two-phase armature current during commutation, while the peak value of torque is reduced by the inversely excited auxiliary excitation coil current, the smooth output of the motor torque is realized by the synergistic control of the double current (armature current and auxiliary excitation coil current). The mathematical model of the novel SRM is derived, and the relationship between the armature current and the auxiliary excitation coil current and the torque is obtained. On this basis, the auxiliary excitation coil current value needed to suppress the peak torque is determined. The simulation and experiment of DEC method and two traditional control methods are carried out, the results show that DEC method can improve the torque ripple obviously.
