Geoscience research is aided by the use of inexpensive, compact, modular, synthetic aperture radar systems. The ARTEMIS SlimSAR has provided these capabilities for a variety of research projects. Advanced SAR application research is facilitated by the SlimSAR's small size, inexpensive cost, and high-performance. Examples of research conducted with the SlimSAR include cross-track interferometry for terrain height mapping, differential interferometry for terrain movement measurement, and along-track interferometry of the ocean surface at multiple frequencies. Large volumes of high-quality SAR data can be collected quickly and inexpensively using small aircraft, facilitating experiments requiring interferometry, polarimetry, and/or multiple-frequency-band operation.
