To further improve the thrust-to-weight ratio of the contra rotating fan(CRF), the topology of the electrical machine should be compared for a better power density and efficiency. In the current study, detailed designs are conducted to compared the performance of the electrical machine for a CRF. The investigated fan and requirement of the electrical machine is illustrated. Through a comparative analysis of the radial and axial flux permanent magnet machine, the performance comparison is drawn. This study provides a comparative analysis and fundamental tool for the design and engineering applications of the PM machine for the CRF.
