Unlike the classical roll bearings, active magnetic bearings are complex mechatronic systems composed of mechanical, electrical and software parts. This paper describes a simulation tool useful for defining a fault dictionary for a rotordynamic system on magnetic bearings suitable for application in the gas and oil field. This tool focuses on the most common electrical faults that normally affect the position sensors and actuators. The fault dictionary is useful to train neural networks to recognize the fault in real time in order to take the right countermeasures in real time and to increase the reliability of the whole system.
