Organizations that want to create a competitive environment actively engage with the Open innovation method. Although the Open innovation paradigm has been introduced since 2003, researchers are still delving into the applicability of this concept in practice and, in particular, with the organizational capabilities that specifically prepare a company to operate in the context of open innovation. As a result, there is still a lack of scientific research on the organizational capabilities of open innovation to help develop OI capabilities to achieve long-term operational results. To fill this gap, in this study we propose to measure the organizational capabilities of open innovation using the capability maturity model. This study not only addresses the research gap but also deepens the understanding of open innovation by providing actual practices for academia. In practice, these research results can be a useful benchmarking tool for understanding the level of current open innovation capabilities and how to improve open innovation work processes.
