This paper demonstrates the feasibility of overcurrent protection in Induction Motor using Fuzzy Logic. Induction Motor is one of the commonly used electrical machines in industrial applications as it provides various advantages over other devices. The major disadvantage is the ingestion of very high current during starting which may lead to damage the system. Based on this drawback, a cost effective protection technique is proposed in this work. Two inputs are applied to the Fuzzy Logic Controller to attain the objective. The inputs provided to the FIS editor are Current and Time. Current sensor is employed to sense any undesirable increase in current and time is calculated when this overcurrent appears and provided to the controller. The output depicts adequate result in this context. The main objective is to limit the current and turn the motor OFF whenever necessary. When the current is high only for a very less amount of time, the current is limited. For an unsustainable high current for a longer time, the motor is turned OFF.
