Recent findings suggest that gait assessment is a useful tool for the early detection and prediction of neurode-generative diseases (such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's) and fall risk in the elderly. This work proposed a method based on millimeter-wave radar for in-home quantitative gait assessment. The results obtained from experimental studies demonstrated the high capability of the millimeter wave radar for capturing instantaneous gait change in real-life environments. Particularly, the developed method gives high accuracy in the measurement of step time, which is a key gait parameter for predicting fall risk and neurodegenerative diseases in the elderly.
