Affected by the severe accreted ice exceeding design values and impact of ice shedding, the suspension clamps of the ground wire of ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission lines was damaged. In this paper, the study of fitting’s displacement was based on the type test platform and the actual working condition of ice accretion. As a result, the defects of the suspension clamps of ground wires were reproduced. Meanwhile, according to the connect problems showed in the experiments, some optimization suggestions were proposed for the suspension clamps of the ground wire of UHVDC transmission lines, especially for the large elevation, long span and heavy ice accretion conditions.
