This letter presents a continuously tunable oscillator based on a multi-layer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filter. The tuning ability of the multi-layer filter is achieved by changing the distance between the center of the SIW cavity and the moving metallic screw. With this method, the size of the filter is reduced and the tuning method is simplified. As the measured results show, the mechanically tunable filter can vary the output frequency of the oscillator in a range from 7.17 GHz to 7.43 GHz. And the designed mechanically tunable oscillator achieves a superior FOM more than 195.4 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency in the tuning range.
