Permanent magnet synchronous machines are ideal solutions to drive the scroll compressors of vehicle air conditioning systems. In the paper four construction variants will be proposed having the same stator and different rotors. These will be compared via the results obtained by means of finite element analysis. Upon the conclusions drawn, the best electrical machine choice for this particular automotive application will be proposed.
