This paper presents a novel operation and control framework for hydrogen-producing offshore wind turbine. Wind power is transmitted by wind power converter to both the grid and the water electrolysis. The operation principle and operation modes are first proposed. Furthermore, the control strategy of the hydrogen-producing offshore wind turbine is developed to enable the different control modes according to grid conditions, where a grid-following control strategy is enabled for hydrogen production under normal condition, and the grid-forming control strategy is performed under grid faults. Simulation verification is implemented to validate the proposed operation and control framework of hydrogen-producing offshore wind turbine. The verification results show that the proposed control strategy can smooth the fluctuating wind power to the grid and produce hydrogen by varying wind power. During grid faults, wind turbine is able to avoid shutdown and maintain the uninterrupted grid-connected operation. The proposed control strategy for different control modes is able to improve the overall energy efficiency and increase the offshore wind power penetration.
