Since it can greatly lower the risk of accidents for both vehicles and pedestrians, street lighting is essential for high-risk areas. This two-part paper presents in-depth analyses of street lighting in all those critical circumstances where surface illumination must be provided in a non-conventional manner, such as roads with varying degrees of inclination or curvature, or areas in crossroads or roundabouts. Comprehensive case studies were conducted for each of these situations. These were accomplished through simulations run through the DIAlux evo software. All the obtained results were compared with a set of reference results obtained for a custom case which consisted of using standardized characteristics to improve the light on a road section.
