In this manuscript, designing of a modified version of variables double sampling plan for the application of measureable quality characteristics is proposed and this plan is designated as variables modified double sampling plan. The suggested sampling plan can be used for inspecting the quality characteristics which are measured on numerical scale with double specification limits. The suitable parameters for suggested variables modified double sampling plan for known sigma are obtained which satisfy both producer's and consumer's risk at their specified quality levels. By formulating a nonlinear programming problem to minimize the average sample number, the optimal plan parameters are determined. The ultimate focus of this manuscript is to reduce the average sample number with defend to both producer and the consumer, contemplate with other existing variables sampling plans with double specification limits. Merits of the suggested variables modified double sampling plan under double specification limits are discussed.
