This paper researched a kind of Substrate Integrated waveguide (SIW) longitudinal slot antenna element, which works at 10 GHz. The researched SIW longitudinal slot antenna has a radiation slot and can be used as a radiation element of a planar antenna array. The designed SIW slot antenna element has low profile, which is advantageous for antenna assemble. A coaxial cable was used to feed the SIW longitudinal slot antenna element and the output port was placed on the bottom of the antenna, which is easy to form antenna array. The designed SIW slot antenna element was simulated and optimized through full wave electromagnetic simulation software. The simulated voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of designed SIW slot antenna element was less than 2 at the central frequency and gain of the simulated SIW slot antenna is higher than 5dBi, and the high radiation efficiency is also achieved. The height of the designed SIW slot antenna was 2 mm and low profile characteristic was also attained. The research results in this paper can provide a design scheme for the research and development of some planar antenna array with low profile.
