Visible light communication (VLC) has gained significant attention in the last few years. However, the conservation of etendue has been a bottleneck in the optical receivers. Fluorescent concentrators which are independent of etendue can be an important replacement for conventional optical concentrators. Results are presented which show that using a fluorescent concentrator results in both an increase in the on-off keying (OOK) data rate and robustness to ambient light.
