Ring assisted Mach Zehnder modulator provides improved performance compared to a microring modulator when the integrated microring is operated in the overcoupled regime. Simulation studies backed with experimental results is presented in this paper where we obtain 6 dB improvement in the resonance depth, 1.25 dB for transmission penalty and 1.65 dB for extinction ratio at an expense of 0.1 dB degradation of insertion loss for the designed RAMZI modulator.
