The paper presents the principles of energy efficiency improvement for architectural and technological approaches. A mathematical model for evaluating the energy efficiency of modern telecommunication networks based on a set of network operating parameters has been developed. This model takes into account the use of promising optical technologies, equipment from different manufacturers and different types of transport technologies, which makes it universal in terms of application in modern networks.
