Main aim of this article is proposal for design approach, consequent simulation and practical implementation of single-phase active rectifier (PFC) designed for a welding inverter with output power of 4kW and output voltage of 400V. The efficiency of PFC should be greater than 95%, and the power factor (PF) at full power load should be more than 98%. Proposed PFC should further comply with international standard IEC 61000-3-2 Class B (Non-Professional Welding Equipment) which is relevant for electromagnetic compatibility regulations by conduction and sets the upper limit of higher harmonic input current. Practical experiments shows, that the design approach is correct and proposed procedure has given required results.
