This paper presents a pulse injected VCO with a tail-filter. The proposed VCO architecture aims at the high power efficiency while mitigates the potential noise contributors by the tail filtering technique. The proposed VCO is fabricated in a standard 45-nm SOI CMOS technology. At an oscillation frequency of 5GHz, the proposed VCO achieves a phase noise of −120dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset while consumes 1.35mW, which corresponds to an FoM of −191 dBc/Hz.
