The widening use of multicopters for various automated tasks provides the opportunity to replace time consuming manual measurements. This paper considers the automation of some on-site photometric measurements, namely the mapping of illuminance and the goniophotometry of a single luminaire, by the use of a sensor carrying quadcopter, with the goal of offering a quicker method for their execution. The parameters of a theoretically possible system are compared to the requirements posed by the respective standards and then the concept is tested through the creation of a prototype device. The tests primarily focus on the mapping of illuminance inside of an enclosed space. The results are then compared to reference measurements carried out by a handheld device.
