In recent years, fractional order PI/PIDs are broadly considered due to its improved performance and stability. Traditional approaches available to design and implement the Fractional-Order PI/PID controllers are more complex and require a large computation skill. In this paper, Social-Group-Optimization (SGO) based procedure is implemented to design the PI/PID controller for a class of stable and unstable systems. This paper proposed a tuning and retuning procedure to design PI/PID controller for stable and unstable processes. The performance of the controller is confirmed based on the reference following and the disturbance elimination operations. Further, the time domain and error parameters are also computed to justify the superiority of the proposed approach.
