A harmonic represents an integral multiple of fundamental frequency that is caused by nonlinear loads in a power system. Examples of loads causing nonlinearity are solid state rectifiers, saturation in magnetic devices etc. The presence of harmonics results in power quality issues in power system. And it leads to increased heating in the equipment and conductors, misfiring in variable speed drives and torque pulsations in motor etc. In this paper, an attempt has been made to reduce harmonics in an induction motor (an important component of a typical power system) existing either in current, voltage, space and time parameters using harmonic injection method. Firstly, harmonics injection method cancels up to 50th harmonics and secondly, it can achieve harmonic distortion level up to or less than 3% THD. In this paper, modeling and simulation of harmonic injection method is done to eliminate harmonics in an induction motor using MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Superiority of the proposed method is established by comparing the results obtained with passive filter.
