In this paper, the power allocation strategy has been discussed for the OFDM-based Cognitive Radio systems. A power allocation scheme based on Geometric Water-Filling(GWF) Peak Power Algorithm is proposed. Power allocation is accomplished considering joint underlay and overlay spectrum access model for cognitive radio. Using the proposed algorithm CR users' transmission rate is enhanced. In the proposed algorithm, total power and individual peak power constraints are taken into account while the value of interference is maintained at certain threshold value. Significant improvement in CR users' transmission rate can be observed. Also, performance of GWF algorithm and suboptimal scheme has been compared..
